SassyCon New Orleans

SassyCon is the creation of Miss Shannon and Bishop Wilde, the owners of Sassy Magick, Sassy Magick Noir and Sassy Magick Boutique in New Orleans. SassyCon has three streams: lecture, practical and creative. This allows YOU to decide how you learn, through a class setting, a practice setting or creating something. Join us in May 2025 for the first SassyCon!

SassyCon will feature three offerings with Jamie Waggoner…

  • Host of Many (practice): Curious about Hades, the Host of Many, Ruler of the Underworld? In this presentation, Jamie will share both well-known and obscure bits of Hades' mythos, introduce you to the magic and mysteries of the Underworld, and deconstruct some of the common misunderstandings about this enigmatic god from Greek mythology. We'll also discuss how to approach a working or devotional relationship with Hades, and engage in a guided trance journey to the Underworld. Your host on this adventure, Jamie, is a dedicated priestess of Hades, and author of the newly released book Hades: Myth, Magic and Modern Devotion (Llewellyn, February 2024).

  • In His Dark Garden: Plants of the Underworld (lecture): When it comes to re-enchanting our modern world, myth and story contain instructions hiding in plain sight. Greek mythology is full of plants and animals, and these beings are important parts of the story — they not only have the power to enrich our magical and ritual practices, but they can also enhance our understanding of complex, multifaceted mythological figures like the gods. In this presentation, Jamie will introduce a surprising variety of plants associated with the Greek god Hades and his Underworld. She’ll share her methods for identifying and investigating the magical properties of these plants, while also discussing their usage and mythic origins. (Here’s a hint: it's way more than just that infamous pomegranate!)

  • Vigil for the Good Death (ritual): Death happens on multiple levels: in our personal lives, in our communities, and in that which is larger (on a global or existential scale). As it is not only a physical ending, we can also experience the death of relationships, careers, and outmoded ways of thinking, being, or doing—just to name a few types of death that may be encountered within a human lifespan. The Vigil for the Good Death is a sacred container, or ritual, that leans into the power of community to recognize and honor death on these multiple levels. After our ritual, participants will be invited to take this powerful magic back to their home communities, and provided with access to online resources that will help them host their own vigils online or in person.
