Death Priestxing: Tending the Threshold of Transition
Paganicon 2024 | Presented by Jamie Waggoner
The Death Priestx (gender-neutral term) are those who tend the threshold of transition. In this liminal space, they help the living navigate death, and assist the dead to share their wisdom with the living. In this presentation, we explore the various roles of the Death Priestx, and the forms this tending can take. We'll ask questions such as, What is a good death? Why is it important? How does it apply to magic and social justice work? We'll learn about helpful allies, in both the manifest and unseen worlds around us, and cover best practice suggestions. Jamie will also share her experiences in leading a monthly community Vigil for the Good Death. Participants will leave this workshop with two takeaways that can be utilized for themselves and their communities: (1) a ritual to give something a symbolic good death, and (2) an adaptable format for facilitating your own vigil.
This presentation is part of the Paganicon 2024 conference, hosted by Twin Cities Pagan Pride. From the website: “Paganicon is a full weekend indoor Pagan conference with programming, entertainment, vendors, an art gallery, and more!” Check out https://tcpaganpride.org/ for ticket info and more details.
